Description:
The prodigious fortepianoist Ronald Brautigam releases a recording of the complete piano concertos in time for the Beethoven Year 2020. Between 2003 and 2015, Brautigam completed recordings of Beethoven's complete works for solo piano, earning high acclaim for his lively and clear approach to performance. The Cologne Academy, led by Michael Alexander Virens, with whom Brautigheim has a strong relationship, will perform the Beethoven solo works. The orchestra's recordings of Mozart and Mendelssohn have attracted much attention. The instrument used is a fortepiano made by Paul McNulty, a replica of the instrument in the period when it was composed. McNulty is not only a master at studying old instruments and creating new ones, but playing his replica gives me new inspiration in terms of interpretation," said Brautigam about playing and recording with McNulty's instruments. McNulty's work is not only inspiring in that he studies old instruments and creates them anew, but also in that playing the replicas he builds gives him new inspiration in terms of interpretation.Brautiham and the Cologne Academy's propulsive and lush performance of Beethoven's piano concerto is also presented. Here is the definitive disc of fortepiano playing.
