Early Blossom' Acrylic and marble plaster on canvas board. Framed Image size 50x50 cm I create the picture first in plaster, made from marble dust and a binding agent. This produces a tangibly dimensional look and feel. After applying gesso, I paint on this relief with high-quality, heavy-body acrylic paint. The end result is a unique and impactful artwork which tends to draw the viewer in. Cherry plum / prunus cerasifera is the earliest tree to blossom in the UK in February/March. We have it growing wild in a hedgerow in our lane. The blossom is delicate and ethereal with branches arching over one. It is a magical sight! I look at three of them out of my kitchen window - so no wonder I wanted to paint it! This painting is on a canvas-covered board - no glass required. The painting has several coats of a satin varnish for UV and dirt protection. It is signed and dated on the back. Painted in 2021.
